On a serious note - most standard health insurance plans do NOT cover mental health. They don’t view mental health as dehabilitating as physical health. Bi-polar disorder can be more disabling than a broken arm.
My parents own their own (failing) business. The healthcare available for small-business owners is RIDICULOUSLY overpriced with minimal coverage. They aren’t insured at all anymore. My family applied for state programs in AZ several times - got approved - and now have free medication. We could all live in a world like this with good health care reform.
I am hoping that with Health Care Reform in this country we will look at health holistically - as a whole - mind, body, soul. Why do we want FOR PROFIT companies controlling this? I mean, I’m seriously asking?
Being healthy encapsulates healthy mental status, fueling your body with healthy foods, getting physical, being happy. Not just taking antibiotics. Over and over again. Because you become immune to them and it kills all the “good” bacteria in your body. That’s another topic…
